Shakespeare uses The Tempest to portray the struggle women faced when under rule of men as well as living in a male dominant society. These struggles are also explained within Marjorie Garber’s article as well as within Jack Goody’s article. Garber reveals how women were unable to express themselves freely through acting while men were needed to portray female characters. Goody explains how women were ultimately worthless unless having inherited property from their husbands. This struggle between male and female is seen through the relationship between Miranda and Prospero.
